We are pleased to introduce the newest addition to the Breakthrough SJC family, Junior Mazariegos. Junior is a student at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and is completing his senior year as a undergraduate student. Junior came across Breakthrough SJC during a recruitment event at UCI. When asked why he chose to intern at Breakthrough SJC, his answer was simply “I wanted to pay it forward.” Junior grew up in Palmdale, CA and “was a [low-income] student nine years ago in high school similar to the students in Breakthrough.” He is excited to learn and bring his own unique experience to the students at Breakthrough SJC.

As a field study intern, Junior’s major projects will include enhancing our volunteer base, recruiting teachers and volunteers at UCI and supporting the Breakthrough team. If you are interested in learning more about the UCI School of Social Ecology Field Study, you can find more information here. Welcome to the team Junior and thank you to UCI for setting up this wonderful opportunity for students to give back to their communities.
