Breakthrough Collaborative’s National Teaching Fellow Application for Summer 2019 is officially open! Each year, we recruit talented, motivated college students to teach in our six-week summer program. If you are looking for a way to grow, be challenged, or explore a career in education, Breakthrough is for you!

Summer 2018 Teaching Fellow, Audrey Shenkin, reached out to reflect her experience with Breakthrough SJC:

I chose to become a Teaching Fellow at Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano because I am majoring in elementary and special education, and I wanted to find a summer internship that would give me a real-world opportunity to develop teaching skills while also working to fight the systemic inequities of education in America.

Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano opens doors of opportunity for both the students and Teaching Fellows. I learned so much about organization, time management, communication, and how to have fun. The energy of Breakthrough is so positive and uplifting, and the connections I was able to make with students were real and authentic.

Spending the summer as a Teaching Fellow at San Juan Capistrano really solidified my dreams of becoming an educator, especially at the middle school level. There are so many students in America who deserve educators who will fight for them and help them achieve the opportunities that they deserve. Breakthrough showed me that all students can attend college, and that is a mindset I will carry throughout my future career.

If you, or someone you know, would make a great teaching fellow, check out Breakthrough Collaborative’s website. The application deadlines are as follows:

  • Early Action: January 10, 2019
  • Regular Decision: February 21, 2019
