Breakthrough Collaborative today announced the expansion of its national network with the addition of a 25th affiliate in Louisville, Ky. The new site marks a significant moment for Breakthrough and its mission to advance educational equity and access to empowering experiences for students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds across the country.
The Breakthrough Board of Trustees voted unanimously to add Summerbridge Louisville (SBL) to the Collaborative, as Breakthrough undertakes a new strategic plan, which prioritizes scaling and driving impact through sustainable growth.
“We have a vital opportunity to deliver capacity-building support to allow Louisville to focus on the heart of our mission to inspire students and cultivate future educators,” said Vince Marigna, CEO of Breakthrough Collaborative. “We welcome Louisville and look forward to what we’ll accomplish together, at this critical time in education.”
Since 1992, Summerbridge Louisville has prepared students to thrive in college and offered real-world teaching and leadership experience to college-aged students. In 2019, SBL was established at Louisville Collegiate, bolstered by the support of Head of School, Rob Macrae, a former Trustee of Breakthrough Collaborative. Kate Lindsay, a native Louisvillian, has served as Executive Director of SBL since 2015, bringing a rich history of community engagement and leadership.
“Our affiliation with Breakthrough Collaborative will not only allow us to meet the ever-growing demand for educational equity, but it will also strengthen our ability to impact the academic futures of both students and teachers here in Louisville,” said Lindsay. “Our staff and board are eager to build our program into a premier affiliate, and importantly, become a valuable asset to the Breakthrough network.”
In the coming year, Summerbridge Louisville will collaborate closely with the National Office to undergo a comprehensive onboarding process and rebrand to adopt the Breakthrough name. This transition marks a deepening commitment for Breakthrough Collaborative to fostering educational equity in the Louisville community and beyond.
