Breakthrough Collaborative is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded an AmeriCorps National Operational Grant in the amount of $1,031,750! This national grant program will initially cover up to 195 AmeriCorps members as Teaching Fellows serving across five affiliates: Breakthrough San Francisco, Breakthrough Summerbridge, Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano, Breakthrough Minneapolis, and Breakthrough Greater Boston.

In February 2023, Breakthrough Collaborative, in collaboration with these five affiliates, received a $200,000 AmeriCorps Planning Grant, which gave us a runway to prepare for an operational grant. Now, we have an incredible opportunity to support our affiliates, increase Teaching Fellow stipends, and secure a more substantial government funding base for long-term sustainability.

It has long been our goal to elevate the Teaching Fellow position and offer the benefits that AmeriCorps affords to as many Teaching Fellows as possible, including: an increased stipend, the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, and the prestige of being an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is at the heart of Breakthrough’s strategy to strengthen the value proposition of our Teaching Fellowship and professionalize the pathway into teaching to ensure a sustainable start to a career in education.

We are grateful for all of the pioneering work by Breakthrough affiliates already operating as AmeriCorps programs, which set the National Office up to be competitive in pursuing AmeriCorps at a national level. As the nation’s largest teacher pipeline program, we are working to strengthen the pipeline of future educators with talented, diverse young people to benefit all students and create a positive, inclusive learning environment. With this funding, we look forward to diversifying our revenue model, in addition to building the sustainability of the Teaching Fellow experience.
