It is my absolute pleasure to introduce George Mailat as the new Assistant Director of College Access & Completion for Breakthrough SJC. George is the first in his family to graduate from High School and obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Cal State Dominguez Hills and a master’s in public policy & administration from Cal State Long Beach. George comes to Breakthrough SJC with nearly 9 years of post-secondary education experience where some of his previous roles included being an AVID Tutor, School Community Liaison, College Advisor, College Access Program Coordinator, UC Berkeley & UCSD Application Reader, and Adjunct Professor.

George shares “I absolutely love this work and believe that supporting our students is necessary to help uplift the next generation of future leaders and create a better world. My goal in this role is to support all our students, families, and the community by providing exciting and innovative opportunities that will help drive our goals for community building, love for all people, fighting for equity, and fostering a strong growth mindset.”

I am excited to welcome George to Breakthrough SJC in overseeing all elements of the academic enrichment program for students in grades 11th-12th and college. I am confident that George’s personal and professional experience will support BTSJC mission in overcoming poverty thru the power of education.
