BREAKTHROUGH’S COVID 19 RESPONSE

A Message to Students and Families about Breakthrough’s Coronavirus Precautions

Friday, March 13th 2020

Dear BTSJC Students, Families, and Community Members,

I am writing to let you know the current response of Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano to novel coronavirus COVID-19. On Wednesday, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, and our nation’s leading health authorities called for all of us to prepare and be ready to adjust in support of the health and well-being of all Americans amidst this rapidly evolving health challenge.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal School has made the decision to begin an organized, temporary school closure beginning Monday, March 16. As our host organization and partner, Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano will be following suit to first protect the health of our students, families and community, and then our larger civic role to mitigate the spread of this global pandemic.

This means that all in-person Breakthrough activities are postponed beginning Monday, March 16. We ask our community to please expect a minimum two-week program closure. We will communicate with you in the event of any new developments. Please be assured that this is a preventative, proactive decision.

  • We are postponing the following in-person activities:
  • Tutoring sessions at Marco Forster Middle School and the Boys and Girls Club
  • 11th grade and 12th grade in-person mentor meetings
  • Monthly high school meetings
  • Participating in the Swallow’s Day parade

Between now, we ask that all students refrain from coming to the Breakthrough office.

BT staff will work remotely and will be available during normal working hours to support our students and share resources with them, so please reach out to staff over email and at their cell phone numbers.

We will continue to update you as this situation unfolds, but please do not hesitate to be in touch if you have questions or concerns at any point. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

We remain a strong BTSJC family and are here to support one another through it.

Best,

Alex, Sam, and Qunsia
